20 Years of Swift – A Milestone Achieved

Maruti Suzuki has achieved a major milestone in India — the iconic Swift hatchback has completed 20 years since its launch in May 2005. Over this journey, Swift has become one of India’s most loved and best-selling cars, with more than 30 lakh units sold.

With a market share of around 31% in its segment, the Swift continues to be a top choice among Indian buyers. The hatchback also contributes nearly 10% of Maruti Suzuki’s total sales in the country.

Swift’s Evolution Over the Generations

The Swift has gone through four major generations, each improving in design, features, and performance.

🔹 1st Generation (2005)

The original Swift brought a bold, sporty design never seen before in budget hatchbacks.

It quickly became a favorite among young drivers.

🔹 2nd Generation (2011)

  • Introduced a more refined look and updated interior.
  • Better mileage and improved handling made it a stronger all-rounder.

🔹 3rd Generation (2018)

  • Built on the new HEARTECT platform, making it lighter and safer.
  • Added features like touchscreen infotainment, LED DRLs, and more.

🔹 4th Generation (2024–2025)

  • The latest-gen Swift got a new 1.2L 3-cylinder petrol engine.
  • Cosmetic upgrades inside and out, more features, and better efficiency.

Swift 2025 – Features and Tech

The 4th-gen Swift is now more loaded with features than ever before:

  • 9-inch floating touchscreen infotainment system
  • Wireless Android Auto & Apple CarPlay
  • 6-speaker Arkamys audio system
  • Automatic climate control & rear AC vents
  • Semi-digital instrument cluster
  • Over 40 connected car features via Suzuki Connect

Safety Features

Maruti has also focused on safety with the latest Swift:

Engine Options – Petrol and CNG

The biggest change in the 2025 Swift is under the hood:

  • New 1.2L 3-cylinder petrol engine
    • Power: 81 bhp, Torque: 112 Nm
    • Transmission: 5-speed manual or AMT
  • CNG Variant
    • Power: 69 bhp, Torque: 102 Nm
    • Available only with 5-speed manual

This engine replaces the older 1.2L 4-cylinder K-Series unit and improves efficiency.

TurboDesh Verdict 🏁

The Swift has come a long way in the past 20 years, but it continues to retain its “fun-to-drive” DNA. Whether it’s a college student’s first car or a small family’s daily ride, the Swift fits the bill.
