The updated version of the Mahindra Thar 3-door is expected to debut by the end of 2025 or early 2026. Recently spotted in camouflage during road tests, the facelift model hints at subtle changes both inside and out.
Exterior Changes to Remain Subtle
Being a mid-cycle update, don’t expect major design overhauls. The exterior tweaks are likely to be minimal, possibly involving a revised front grille, redesigned bumpers, or updated lighting elements. The overall rugged character of the SUV will remain intact.

Interior and Feature Enhancements Incoming
Inside the cabin, Mahindra might introduce upgraded materials, new trim finishes, and updated software. Features seen on the recently launched Thar Roxx—like a refreshed infotainment system—could trickle down to this model. While it won’t be a complete overhaul, the experience could feel more modern and tech-friendly.
Powertrain Options Likely to Remain the Same
No major changes are expected under the hood. The current engine options, including the 1.5L turbo diesel (117 bhp/300 Nm), 2.0L turbo petrol (150 bhp/320 Nm), and 2.2L diesel (130 bhp/300 Nm), are expected to continue. Both 2WD and 4WD setups with six-speed manual and automatic transmissions will likely be offered.
Premium Features May Arrive from Thar Roxx
High-end features available in the Thar Roxx—such as a 10.25-inch touchscreen with navigation, AdrenoX interface, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Harman Kardon sound system, Level 2 ADAS, automatic climate control, wireless charging, panoramic sunroof, six airbags, and a 360-degree camera—may partially make their way to the facelifted Thar. If that happens, expect a slightly higher price tag.

Mahindra’s Broader Facelift Plans
Mahindra is not just updating the Thar. The XUV700 is also undergoing facelift testing and is expected to launch around the same time. Additionally, a new-generation Bolero Neo, based on a fresh ladder frame chassis with a revamped design, is reportedly set for launch as early as August 2025.
